Reviews usually have to be requested
Approved hours reflect an assessment made at one point in time. When needs increase, ask the local Home Support Office directly for a review of the assessment of need, and put the request in writing as well as by phone.
Evidence that helps
- A two-week log showing where the gaps fall and what happens in them
- Any falls, missed medication, weight loss or hospital attendances since the last assessment
- A note of what family are currently covering, and what is no longer sustainable
- Any recent letter from a GP, hospital or therapist
While you wait
- Ask what community or voluntary services could cover specific gaps
- Ask about respite if a family carer is close to exhaustion
- If you can pay, private hours can bridge a gap — keep the public application open regardless
If you disagree with the outcome
Ask what the local process is for reviewing a decision, and ask for the decision and the reasons in writing. A Citizens Information centre can help you understand your options.
